Many of us know people who go beyond everyday cycling and incorporate cycling into as much of their daily lives as possible. For some, cycling is their recreational passion and you will see them out on road bikes every chance they can get, either alone or riding in clubs like Peterborough Cycling Club. Others integrate cycling into their daily routine, commuting to work, getting back and forth to school or using their bikes for short trips and shopping. Those that are really committed include cycling into as many aspects of their lives as they can: recreation, daily travel and their job. One such person is Jeffrey Macklin of Jackson Creek Press. Once again, the Peterborough Bicycle Advisory Committee (P-BAC) is hosting the Peterborough and the Kawarthas Cycling Summit. This year’s summit, which features a concurrent Youth Bike Summit is about how citizens can get engaged in creating the kind of bicycle friendly community they want.
2013 was a mixed bag for Peterborough cyclists. Generally, the weather was good through the summer months. And although this winter has come in early and ugly, the 2012-13 winter came late and left relatively early giving most folks a good riding season. Beyond the weather, several events and actions in 2013 improved cycling in Peterborough. We did, however, have a few set-backs.
